What is Crowd-Sourcing?
Crowd-Sourcing is the main idea behind the Folk Club Map. It means that rather than one person painstakingly collecting and updating information, everybody contributes. The theory is that this will result in a much more complete map and many people will help to keep it reliable by noticing when something is wrong and doing something about it. It’s the idea behind Wikipedia.
So some of the features of the map are intended to help this, like allowing anybody to add data and inviting people to let me know if something is wrong.
Requiring website or web page addresses is also important as that gives everybody a quick way of checking that a club still exists and what’s happening. If a website is dead, clearly out of date or not giving relevant information, I’ll remove the club from the map.
